An established mid-tier national firm is seeking an Associate or Senior Associate to join its high-performing Construction team in Sydney. This is an opportunity to join a collaborative, growing practice where you will gain broad exposure to front-end advisory, project delivery support and complex dispute resolution matters.
About the team & role:
- Advise a diverse client base including principals, developers, subcontractors and consultants across mid-tier construction and infrastructure projects
- Work on a broad mix of matters:
- Front-end: Drafting, reviewing and negotiating standard form and bespoke construction contracts; providing ongoing project delivery advice
- Back-end: SOPA claims and adjudications, court litigation, arbitrations and expert determinations
- Collaborate within a specialist construction team that operates in smaller pods, providing you with direct partner access and the ability to build relationships across the wider team
- Immediate opportunity to work closely with a partner and special counsel on both front and back-end matters, with a preference for candidates with exposure to both areas.
- 4–8 years’ PAE in building and construction law, with experience across front-end and/or back-end matters
- Confident understanding of SOPA legislation and experience in adjudications (acting for claimants and respondents)
- Skilled in drafting and negotiating construction contracts and working with expert witnesses on issues such as time, quantum, and defects
- Commercially astute, detail-oriented, and client-focused, with excellent time management and communication skills
- Comfortable working collaboratively within a close-knit team and eager to contribute to business development initiatives
