Description of the job

Description

Help people create their tomorrow, while you create yours

We help people with their banking, super, retirement and finances. Through upturns, downturns, recessions, and major life transitions. Every day, we help people see and make more of their financial potential, so that they can create their tomorrow. And we’ve been doing it for over 170 years.

If we do our job well, we genuinely add to the prosperity of our country and its people.

The Manager, Tax Reclaims is responsible for leading the development, governance and execution of AMP’s global withholding tax strategies and processes across Superannuation and Investment funds. This includes overseeing withholding tax compliance and reclaim activities, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

The role also provides expert support to business units on complex tax matters, manages relationships with external stakeholders and drives continuous improvement initiatives to optimise tax outcomes and operational efficiency.

How will you make an impact

  • Withholding Tax Strategy & Management by leading the end-to-end withholding tax reclaim and relief-at-source processes. Ensure timely and accurate submission of claims and maintain robust tracking mechanisms. Monitor changes in international and domestic tax laws affecting withholding taxes and update internal processes accordingly.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including Custodians, Investment Operations, Portfolio Managers, the ATO, and foreign tax authorities. Act as the primary contact for audit and regulatory interactions related to withholding tax.
  • Process Improvement: Drive enhancements in tax processes, identify automation opportunities, and strengthen internal controls. Lead or contribute to tax technology initiatives involving large-scale data processing and reporting automation. Implement best-practice governance to support compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Analytics and Technology Enablement: Leverage data analytics and modern tax technology tools to generate deeper insights and improve reporting quality. Champion the use of automation and advanced analytical tools to enhance data accuracy and deliver timely, actionable insights.

What you will bring to the role

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related discipline, along with professional certifications such as Chartered Accountant, Certified Practising Accountant, or Chartered Tax Adviser.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in tax, including operational tax and global withholding tax reclaims. Experience in financial services, fund administration, or investment platforms is highly desirable.
  • Excellent technical knowledge of Australian income tax law, international tax principles, and global withholding tax rules and reclaim processes.
  • Advanced analytical and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines and priorities.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency, with experience working with large datasets.

Who you are

You are a tax professional with exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of interpreting complex financial data and tax legislation. You are confident using tax analytics and reporting tools and skilled at leveraging technology and automation to improve processes and support data-driven decision-making.

You bring a meticulous attention to detail and excellent compliance mindset. You proactively manage risk, ensure accuracy in all tax deliverables and maintain documentation that meets audit standards.

You are an excellent communicator with excellent interpersonal skills. You can explain complex tax matters clearly, produce high-quality reports and build collaborative relationships with internal teams, external auditors and tax authorities.

You are adaptable and committed to continuous improvement. You embrace change, think innovatively and seek opportunities to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of tax operations through new technologies and process enhancements.
