We are seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to join our team. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting accounting operations, ensuring compliance, and providing strategic financiais insights to support decision-making across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare annual budgets.
- Prepare financial statements including period-end adjustments (Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet & Statement of Cash Flows) for presentation to Executive Management Team, Governing Council and regulatory body (TEQSA).
- Prepare quarterly Business Activity Statements (BASs).
- Prepare and process payroll (including payroll taxes), ensuring compliance with award rates and accurately process payments for ATO & superannuation.
- Perform bank reconciliations.
- Assist in preparing tax returns.
- Assist in maintaining the fixed asset register.
- Assist in the audit of the annual financial reports and contribute towards regular internal audits.
- Assist in appraising new projects (e.g. opening of a new campus) and prepare cash flow projections and assess financial risk for the project.
- Liaise with financial institutions to source funding and maintain lines of credit.
- Maintain internal control systems and advise on measures to prevent fraud.
- Maintain the accounting system (Xero) and provide advice on IT-based solutions to streamline and improve the accounting/finance operations.
- Analyse income and operating costs for each campus and overall Institute.
- Prepare regular reports including accounts receivables ageing report, student tuition fee income report, expenditure report and other reports required for regulatory compliance and decision making by Executive Management Team.
- Prepare any other reports (ad-hoc) required for regulatory compliance (TEQSA).
- Provide assurance on the accuracy and statutory compliance of financial reports.
- Advise the Institute on appropriate business structures, plans, and operations.
- Provide taxation advice to the Institute.
- Assist in formulating accounting policies.
- Advise the institute on new business acquisitions and mergers (e.g. acquisition of another provider).
- Comply with CIM policies including Work Health & Safety and Equal opportunity.
- Any other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Finance Manager & Dean.
Qualifications
- Completed degree in the relevant field.
- Ability to work in Australia.
- Two years relevant experience.
- Strong understanding of accounting systems and financial regulations.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software (Xero) and Microsoft Office Suite.
